Self-portrait

In this self-portrait I’ve described my story as it is now. For years, I have dreamed of moving to NYC, having formerly lived in Philly and Southwestern PA. However, earlier this year I lost my job, and am now living my exciting and frightening dream of creating art full-time. The portrait shows my face, rendered realistically, but features stylized tendrils of hair, connected to landmarks in cities I’ve lived in. Love Park symbolizes my heartbreak and growth while living in Philadelphia, the Golden Gate bridge for my artistic awakening in San Francisco as the figurative "bridge" in my career, and the building on the left is a combination of a clocktower in Uniontown (my hometown) and PPG (in Pittsburgh) They are combined since both cities are in Southwestern PA and very much alike in culture! The NYC landmarks are connected too but not clearly visible, since I’ve never resided in NYC full time. It’s on the skyline as a goal, but a larger goal to work up to. In the bottom, I’ve placed a few ferris wheels to symbolize both happiness and a lack of control of many personal circumstances. The navigation wheels stands for the direction I’m craving in my life and career, and the clock gears are for my thinking process, productivity, and because only time will tell!
